Welcome to the 'Early Edition' Bear Facts for 2017

May I begin this newsletter by wishing you all the very best for 2017.
With our 110th season before us we have much to be excited about.

Pre Season

On the football front Head Coach, Steve Piggott, has been busy assembling a senior squad that will be very competitive.
Training has been going well and games have already been played in what is a full pre season program that includes a number of traveling teams visiting.

We will provide a full update on the senior squads soon.
Many thanks also to the Cessnock City Council and Cessnock Goannas for their assistance and generosity in letting us use the Baddeley Park facility while surface maintenance was carried out at our ground.

Grounds

Work has been ongoing at the Bears playing facility with many gains made on the training and playing surfaces. In particular the full size training ground has responded very well to it's off season make over. With recent weather very good for growing we are confident all surfaces will be in great condition.

Teams

Youth trials, selections and summer academy have been completed. Congratulations to all the players on their selection and welcome to all those new to the club.

Importantly, this year Weston will be fielding their first women's team. Trials have been conducted, selections made and we are very excited about our new club-mates.
Welcome to the Club ladies.

Golf Day - Feb 26

The Bears Golf Day will be held on February 26 at the Kurri Kurri Golf Club.

Always a super day this year is shaping up as a beauty. Breakfast and lunch are included with lots of prizes up for grabs.

Most importantly your attendance is a great way to support the Club, make a great start to in 2017 and enjoy each others company.

So, get your 4 person team together, give it a great name, complete the online form and make your electronic payment when you receive the confirmation email.

Thank you to our sponsors

In this new age of the NPL we are very fortunate to have many new and long term sponsors. We cannot do it without them / you and for this support we are extremely grateful.
We have already begun traditional and new approaches to acknowledge the importance of such support. Our sponsors page will also be updated soon.

Together

It was with great pride the football Club could finally pair two of the most incredible pieces of football silverware in this country. The Hennings Ball is such a unique trophy won by Weston in 1917 - even the restorers were blown away.
The NSW State League Cup is something else. A beautiful trophy that is an incredible part of Australian football history.
The club will now look to find the best way possible to display these wonderful pieces.
We would also like to acknowledge the incredible contribution of Terry Hickey and ANDROCK Engineering. Terry found the State Cup on a scrap heap to be smelted the following day. Terry entrusted our club with it's restoration to celebrate our regions role in this era of football.
ANDROCK Engineering & Mining have been the driving force and major supporter of this project. Their understanding of the cups importance ensures we now have two magnificent pieces of history to display and share.
From all of us thank you!

I hope you find this 'early edition' newsletter of interest. We will resume shortly with the regular newsletter with all that is happening at the Bears.

C’Mon you Bears!!
